1935-Addie Austin-2023
Addie Austin was born on July 17th, 1935 to Willie Mae and Alexander Watkins in Macon, Georgia. Addie was lovingly known to her family and friends as “Pinky”.
At a young age the family relocated to Paterson, New Jersey, where she attended Paterson Public Schools.
As a youth, Addie was baptized in Macon, Georgia, and later joined Christ Temple Baptist Church of Paterson, New Jersey, under the leadership of the Rev. Freddie L Roberson.
While in New Jersey, Addie was joined in holy matrimony to the late Arthur Lee Austin. From this union there were two children, Pamela Jones and Wanda Hargrove.
While in Paterson, Addie Austin was a member of Deborah Chapter #49 of Paterson, New Jersey, Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron.
Addie worked for many years and was employed at various companies including Spiral Book Binding and Hoffman LaRoche where she was fortunate to enjoy an early retirement and relocated to Florida where she lived throughout her retirement years.
Addie was a praying woman who knew and loved the Lord. During her years in Florida, Addie joined First Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Sanford, Florida. She was an active church member and sang on Choir #2, served on the Deaconess Ministry and served as President of the Senior Women’s Ministry. She enjoyed preparing the holiday fruit baskets for seniors, making floral arrangements and planning the senior women’s birthday luncheons.
Addie was a lively, vibrant woman. She loved celebrating with her family and friends and was often the life of the party.
She was a “No Nonsense” person and the family knew not to mess with Pinky, except for her grandson “Brian”, who could get away with anything and her favorites, niece Kideda and nephew Damon.
Her next love was traveling. During her lifetime Addie travelled often with her sister Mae, to places like France, Hawaii, California, New Orleans, Las Vegas, and numerous Caribbean Islands. She also loved to cruise.
After a brief illness she was called to rest on June 12th, 2023. Addie was preceded in death by her mother and father Willie Mae and Alexander Watkins, husband Arthur Lee Austin, brothers Alexander Watkins, Jr and Silas Watkins and sister Belinda Grant and longtime friend and companion Levi Graham, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories, her daughters Pamela Jones of Deltona Florida, Wanda Hargrove of Paterson, New Jersey; grandson Brian K Jones (Helen), great grandchildren Bralen and Kyece Jones of Roselle, New Jersey, brother James Watkins Sr (Geraldine) and Johnnie Mae Chestnut of Citrus Springs, Florida; sisters-in-law Dorothy Reed of Paterson, New Jersey, Geraldine Watkins of Citrus Springs, Florida, Essie Mae Watkins of Villa Rica, Georgia and Lovely Watkins of Decatur, Georgia and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
