Emma Graham Obituary

Emma Louise "Lou" Graham

May 16,1933 ~ December 22, 2023 (age 90)

Emma Louise "Lou" Jones Graham, born May 16, 1933, was the fourth child of the late Benjamin and Emma Gardner Jones. Her parents along with two sisters and four brothers have preceded her in death.  Emma Lou accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. O.W. Foster at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Liberty City. Emma Lou, also known as "Lou Baby" by her grandfather and her Aunt Sweet was a very helpful child. She spent a lot of her childhood living with her grandfather Dea. James Gardner aka "Papa". During this time, she frequented A. M. Cohen Temple Church of God in Christ, where her grandfather was a Deacon. She tinkled around with the piano, learning to play and sing some of the Baptist hymns for him. This was the beginning of her love for hymns.  She attended Miami Dade County Public Schools matriculating to Dorsey High School. Emma was a hard worker and an excellent employee. Emma began her career in women's apparel in the 1950's. Being instrumental in change she was one of the first "black" Window Dressers for Ruth Ball Dress Store on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables and Sandra Post Dress Store on Miami Beach. Her love for this line of work would take her to Manager of Shipping and Receiving for the unique upscale lady's boutique "Lory's Fashions". At Lory's, Emma managed the warehouse and was responsible for the daily shipping of merchandise to over 30 stores throughout the State of Florida. Emma was a woman with strong work ethics and believed in helping other young ladies. There are many of her nieces, their friends and her daughter that got their start working alongside her. Emma knew styles, fabrics, and designers. She was the Mistress of Ceremony and Hosted many fashion shows within the Miami area. Upon the closing of Lory's in the mid 80's, Emma went on to Barbara Katz Dress Store in Boca Raton where she worked until she moved to Deltona, Florida in 1997. Her last place of employment was JC Penney in Sanford, Florida  Emma was a member of Saint Paul AME Church under the leadership of Rev. Vincent Mitchell. Upon her relocation she became a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Deltona, Florida, Pastor William L. Bradley, Jr. Emma Lou Graham loved to sing and give Praise to her God. Her favorite hymn was Sweet Hour of Prayer and on Friday morning, December 22, 2023, her Heavenly Father bid her to His Throne, she took down her earthly tent and left this World of Care,

She leaves to embrace her memories, her only child Gwendolyn Joyce Wescott (Tyrone), grandson Orren Tyrone Wescott (Cheryl), granddaughter Courtney Noelle Wescott, great grandchildren Alexis Ilene and Michael Tyrone Wescott all of Fountain, CO. One sister Barbara Johnson (Henry) Pembroke Pines, FL., Brother Johnille Jones of Centreville, IL, Sisters-in-Law Addie Jones of Sanford, FL., Rachel Jones of Belleville, IL and Juanita Jones of Buenavista, GA.
