A Time to be Born

Mary Williams Johnson, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Beatrice Williams, was born in Winter Garden, Florida February 3, 1940. Mary was the second of four children. The family grew up in Tildenville, Florida.

A Time to Love

Mary met the love of her life, Earl Johnson Sr., while living in Tildenville, Florida and attended Charles R. Drew High School in Winter Garden, Florida. Mary and Earl were married on September 11, 1956. They were married for 60 years until her husband transitioned November 24, 2016. They moved to Daytona Beach, Florida where they raised their four daughters and two sons.

A Time to Mourn

Mary was a very special person who spent her life loving and providing for her family and others. She lived her life in a way that many will remember her, and few will forget her. Those who will cherish her memory are her daughters, Cheryll Johnson Tate (Odie, Deceased), of Indianapolis, IN, Sharlyn Clark (Deceased), Carla and Valerie Johnson of Daytona Beach, FL., Earl Johnson (Jewel) of Palm Coast, FL., Lyndon Johnson (Melani) of Ormond Beach, FL. She is survived by 19 grandchildren, and she was pre-deceased by two grandchildren: 26 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. She leaves behind two sisters: Sonja Garcia (Rigo) of Tampa, FL. and Loria Anderson of Deltona, FL. She was pre-deceased by her sister Mildred Williams.

A Time to Serve

Mary graduated from Bethune Cookman College (BCC), now Bethune Cookman University, in 1969. Upon graduating from BCC, she began working for Volusia County Schools as an elementary school teacher. She shaped and changed the lives of hundreds of students over her 31 years as an educator. As a dedicated and compassionate educator, she left an indelible mark on the lives of countless students, colleagues, and community members. In her retirement, Mary Johnson volunteered in Volusia County Schools, continuing to educate the minds and hearts of students across the district. She instilled in children the importance of being lifelong learners. She was a faithful servant of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church for 50 years serving as a member of the Richard Allen Club as well as providing meals for the community on 4th Sundays. She was a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.
